(Photo: Dmitri K/Flickr) If you’re jetting off to the U.S. territory island of Puerto Rico this winter, you’ll need to pack for several situations. Puerto Rico is very casual most of the time – life is laid back on the beach! But at night, people tend to dress up before going to upscale restaurants, nightclubs and casinos in San Juan. You’ll also need to pack appropriately for outdoor adventures in Puerto Rico, from hiking in El Yunque (Puerto Rico’s rainforest) to kayaking in the bioluminescent bay.
Beach days in Condado
Whether you’re lounging poolside at the ultra chic La Concha resort or catching rays by the ocean, dress to impress on the beaches of this swanky San Juan neighborhood.
Shop this packing list: Milly printed bikini // La Blanca black cover up // ASOS pants (an under $50 must!) // Minkpink dress // J. Crew black bikini // Samudra pouch // Baggu beach bag // Maaji flip flops // Joie gold sandals // Karen Walker sunglasses
Nights out in San Juan
From hidden salsa clubs to ritzy casinos and laid-back bars, there’s plenty of nightlife in San Juan.
Generally people wear tight, fitted clothing, but there’s no need to be overly sexy (i.e., don’t combine short and tight with cut outs). Keep jewelry minimal – San Juan is a safe place, but you never want to send the message that you’re laden with expensive jewels late at night in an unfamiliar city.
Many restaurants & clubs have a dress code, so always know before you go.
Shop this packing list: Forever 21 fit and flare dress // Nasty Gal black top // T-bags stretch jersey mini dress // Love Shack Fancy dress (my personal favorite!) // Sbicca chunky heel // Express basket weave heel // Mix No. 6 cross body bag // Seychelles wedge
Hiking in El Yunque
Stay safe from mosquitos by covering up, but keep your outfit breathable in the humidity of El Yunque.
