I thought about doing an outfit post but on New York City’s first 90+ degree day, I just couldn’t stand outside long enough! So instead I snapped my OOTD on the floor of my air conditioned bedroom. Much nicer.
I really love this skirt that I bought over the weekend at Pema in Brooklyn, which is one of my favorite stores. They have tons of cute dresses, skirts, tops and shoes for around $50 – I literally head there at the beginning of every summer to stock up!
This past weekend I went to Boston for some family events (a graduation party and Father’s Day). I was lucky enough to have time to visit my favorite neighborhood, the South End. I especially love this charming area because there are so many fabulous brunch restaurants (read more about my top restaurants in Boston here) and cute little shops like Flock, a contemporary fashion boutique on Shawmut Ave. Every street in Boston’s South End is picture perfect, so naturally I took lots of photos!
Above you can spot one of the last remnants of the old South End. Before the million dollar condos and dog toy boutiques existed, this neighborhood was primarily Syrian and Lebanese. Sahara Syrian restaurant has been practically abandoned for almost 50 years, used for storage by Syrian Grocery a couple blocks away. This grocery store, by the way, has great Middle Eastern food items and the owners are super friendly, if you have a chance to pop in!
The Long Island City waterfront is an undiscovered gem in New York City. As much as I love heading to Brooklyn, it’s nice to have a place like this right here in Queens. And after spending last week traveling to Colombia, I was too tired to venture out of borough this past weekend!
The LIC waterfront is a short subway ride from Manhattan on the 7 train (get off at Vernon Jackson, 1 stop from Grand Central) and you can even take the ferry there from Williamsburg or Brooklyn Heights.
There’s a small park for lounging/picnicking in the sun, but your best bet is to befriend someone who lives in one of the luxury high-rise buildings overlooking the East River. They have rooftop pools up there
After taking a walk by the water, I always grab food at Skinny’s Cantina. If you follow me on Instagram you will probably notice that I’m constantly Instagramming my tacos and micheladas. What can I say, I love my Mexican food! But go to Skinny’s Cantina for brunch… on the weekends they offer a great deal of 2 drinks (hello mimosas! …or coffee, if that’s your style) plus a brunch entree for $15. Bonus: there’s no Manhattan or Williamsburg-style 2 hour wait for a table. Saturday afternoon complete.
You know what never gets old? Color blocking. It’s the easiest way to make a simple outfit (hello skirt + button down) look special. I am loving the color combination of orange and coral this season – what are your favorite colors for pairing together?
